A priority for this weekend is to enjoy these activities while taking into account the sanitary guidelines to avoid getting infected by covid-19, such as: wearing a mask, staying 6 feet away from others, constant hand-washing, avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces.

It’s also important to review the Emergency Commission established Alert Zones, and the driving restrictions before booking a rural tour outdoor activity.

Outdoor activities

On Friday

The ChepeCletas cycling club is offering a riding tour through the historic streets of downtown San José. The tour starts at 6 p.m. Price is $8 per person. Make reservations by calling 8849-8316

On Saturday

The community club Parque La Libertad in Patarra District, San José Province, is calling on volunteers to help clean parks and plant flowers. The activity starts at 8:30 a.m. Also on Saturday, the club is offering an Indian tribal body painting course which starts at 9:30 a.m. It is for all ages. For more information call 8389-0047.

Ride your bike to Volcan Turrialba in Cartago Province. The activity will take place on Saturday and is organized by the Cleteros Costa Rica cycling club. The route is 60 kilometers from San José to Turrialba. The price is $40 per person. The tour includes an expert guide, lunch, photos, videos and mechanic support. Free picnic is open for all ages at Freses Park in Curridabat Canton, San José Province. The activity is organized by the TicOsos club to promote Human Rights. The picnic starts at 11 a.m.  People should bring their picnic baskets and drinks. There will be activities and games. More information by calling 8815-1539

Eco STEAM Day Camp in Cobano Puntarenas Province. The activity is organized by the Mangrove Society for children to learn with games and the STEAM method. The activity is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for children from 6 to 12 years old. The price per child is $25. For more information call 8532-2315.

On Sunday

The ATV Championship at Pista Pasion Mx in Puerto Viejo Sarapiqui, Limon Province, starts at 8 a.m. It is organized by the ATV Sports Association. The entrance is free. For more information call 6105-0789.

Tour to the Sunflower walking tour in Pital San Carlos, Alajuela Province. Organized by the Bio Caminatas club. The price is $38, which includes an expert guide, a 2-hour walk through the sunflower fields, breakfast and lunch. Make a reservation by calling 8829-9455.

During the weekend

The Monster Burger Challenge starts at 11 a.m. at Ridiculous Burgers in Jaco Beach, Puntarenas Province. “You have 30 Minutes to eat our Half a Meter High Monster Burger, Fries and a Soda,” according to their flyer on Facebook. The winner receives $100 plus the entire meal free and other goodies. Make a reservation by calling 2643-1010.

The Whale Watching Tour in Parque Marino Ballena, organized by Costa Rica Tour Deals. The price is $69 per person that includes a boat tour and lunch. Call for more information, 6205-3658.

The Simón Bolívar Zoo weekend,  in downtown San José opens at 9 a.m. The place is home to more than 70 species of animals and a large number of tropical plants. Entrance costs about $7 at the zoo box office.

The Santa Ana Conservation Center, located in the city of the same name in San José Province, is open at 9 a.m. The place has animal farms, trails and tropical gardens. The entry costs about $7 and can be purchased at the zoo's box office.

The Lankester Botanical Gardens, a set of gardens located in Dulce Nombre Canton, Cartago Province, is open at 8:30 a.m. The cover price is about $10 at the box office. Reserve a spot by calling the number 2511-7949.

Concerts and shows

This evening, the National Symphony Orchestra offers a classical music concert at 6 p.m. inside the Higuerón Auditorium, in Heredia Province. Free entry.

Also, this evening, Costa Rica's New Orchestra will give a concert at 6 p.m. inside the Eugene O'Neill Theater, located in downtown José. Entry price $10. For more information call 8455-6666 or 2207-7561.

On Saturday and Sunday, the National Philharmonic Orchestra will give a concert in honor of the Mexican singer Luis Miguel at the Melico Salazar Theater in downtown San José. Tickets cost between $30- $60 depending on the location of the seat. Tickets are on sale at Eticket.cr

On Sunday, the National Theater in San José downtown will present the musical "Anansi an Afro Odyssey." The show will have two performances, 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tickets cost $11 and are on sale at Tickets Showare site.

Theater plays

This evening, the National Theater Company will be presenting the play “El Crimen Nuestro” at the La Aduana Theater in downtown San José . The price is $12 and can be purchased on the Theater Melico Salazar site. For more information call 2257-8305.

Weekend movies

The Centro Cine Costarricense is presenting the Colombian film, Cria de Puercos (pigs farm in the English language). The entry is free, but make reservations by calling 2542-5200.

The European Film Festival continues at Magaly Theater. Expect 21 films from 10 countries. Movie tickets are about $5 and can be purchased online at the Magaly website.

The International Film Festival continues with a program of independent films from 34 countries in 18 different languages. Tickets are free. A total of 20 movie theaters will be screening the selected films all across the country. Visit the festival's website to acquire tickets to watch the film and reserve a seat.

At local movie theaters, the new films playing are: “ Suicide Squad 2,” which is a superhero film based on DC Comics starring Margot Robbie, John Cena, Sylvester Stallone and Viola Davis; “Free Guy,”  a science fiction action comedy film starring Ryan Reynolds.

More films in theaters are "Jungle Cruise," "Space Jam," " Black Pink," "The Boss Baby 2," "F9: The Fast Saga" and "Black Widow." 

Most of the movie theaters are requesting the ticket to be purchased online, such as CCM Cinemas, Cinepolis and CineMark
