Theater performances will be presented in High schools By
the A.M. Costa Rica staff
The Ministry of Culture announced the "Theater in the Classroom" program, which is an initiative of the Melico Salazar Popular Theater*, to present professional plays at public high schools, from August to November. According to the ministry, the goal is to give students access to see real shows, with the same quality that is done in the theater. In addition to the plays, students "will participate in training forums taught in the classrooms, as part of the Spanish subject," said the ministry in its statements. There will be 20-minute plays, of national and international literature, which in the first phase, will be seen by 7,200 high school students from San Jose, Heredia and Alajuela. "In addition, there will also be presentations by actors at the National Children's Hospital* and San Juan de Dios Hospital*, where classes will be taught to the young patients," said the ministry in its statement. The first play will be "The doctor in spite of himself", by Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, known as Molière. The play addresses issues that can and should be analyzed from a current perspective: domestic violence, as well as values and attitudes on which we build personal and social relationships. "We can bring young people closer to the theater while working on topics that help them in their intellectual development," said Sylvie Durán, Minister of Culture. More information about the dates and times of the functions in the schools can be reached at Ministry Facebook page here.* ----------------------- Do you agree that theater is an important curriculum for young people in schools?
