By the A.M. Costa Rica staff
The first garbage recycling center, called the Recovery Center for Valuable Waste, inaugurated in Santa Cruz Canton, Guanacaste Province.
The development of the building, located in an area of 867.5 square meters by 463 square meters, was valued at $335,500, financed by the Rural Development Institute, INDER. The rest was provided by the local municipality to install the equipment for waste recycling.
The municipality garbage trucks will transport the waste to the center where the association workers are in charge of developing the recycling process.
The building allows temporary storage of waste, where recoverable materials are classified, processed and sold.
People who belong to the Rural Development Associations of the Bernabela and El Cacao communities will be able to separate and enhance the materials.
The equipment used to process each waste is specific in size and strength for each type of material to be compacted, which generates bales with different dimensions and weights. Some machines allow the compaction of aluminum, plastic and cardboard.
According to the institute, this year more than $1 million have been invested in the construction of infrastructure for environmental projects in rural areas of the country.
People interested in knowing the recycling projects financed by INDER, may call the line 2247-7400, which is open from Monday to Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
