Team Surf managed to enter in place 6 of the top ten in World Surfing Games

The National Surf Team of Costa Rica announced the national team managed to be in the top six of the semi-final round in the 2019 ISA World Surfing Games, taking place in Miyazaki, Japan.

"In the competition, the surfer Brisa Hennessy, beat Caroline Marks from the U.S. and Nikki Van Dijk from Australia," said the Federation in its statement.

Today, Wednesday, it will be the turn to compete for Carlos Muñoz, Jair Pérez, and Noe Mar. Those who will compete against Kanoa Igarashi and Kelly Slater of the U.S. team.

These heats will take place from 8:40 pm Costa Rica time and can be seen live on the ISAsurf.org site here.*

According to the Federation, the Top 10 countries as of Tuesday were:

1. Brazil

2. Peru

3. The U.S.

4. Australia

5. South Africa

6. Costa Rica

7. Spain

8. France

9. Japan

10. New Zealand

As A.M. Costa Rica reported on September 6, the Costa Rica Surf Team is competing against 55 teams of other countries.

According to organizers event will unite 240 athletes to pursue their dreams of qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.



The Costa Rican team, chosen by coach Jim Hogan, are Jair Pérez, Noe Mar McGonagle, Carlos Muñoz, Eva Woodland, Leilani McGonagle, and Brisa Hennessy. The goal for the team is to occupy a space in the Top 10 in the world.

In August, the deputies of the Legislative Assembly voted in the first round in favor of bill No. 21.241, to declare the third Saturday of October as Surf National Day, in addition to declaring this sport as a public interest.
