Switzerland-based, biotechnological company Roche announced on Monday the plan for expansion of its operations in the country.

The company began its Costa Rica operations in June 2017. They currently employ more than 600 workers in the country and are opening 125 new jobs for the People Support Solutions department as part of human resource services.

“We reaffirm that talent is the greatest driving force for growth that makes it possible for us to continue offering high-value-added services that are increasingly sophisticated and that make our portfolio robust," Héctor Feliú, the General Manager of Roche said. "All these results help our global purpose of improving the quality of life for patients around the world from Costa Rica.”

The company will hire professionals with advanced English language proficiency and in areas such as compensation, benefits, payroll, training, and acquisition of talent, etc. Some specific positions require an advanced grasp of French and Portuguese as well.
They are also opening new job positions in finance, sales, and information technologies.

The company offers its employees benefits such as Solidarity Association and work from home options. People interested in applying for a job should visit the Roche career site.

Biotechnological firms produced more than $5 billion in 2020, according to the Costa Rican Investment Promotion Agency, CINDE. The numbers are based on September's data from the Central Bank of Costa Rica.

As of December 2020, foreign companies generated almost 12,000 new jobs for Costa Ricans.

Although more international companies are offering job vacancies in Costa Rica, unemployment is one of the most critical issues. According to the Employment Survey, from November 2020 to January 2021, the unemployment rate was 19.1% meaning the unemployed population reached more than 468,000 people.
