Country Airlines to start new flights between
Dallas and Liberia in 2020
By the A.M. Costa Rica staff The Sun Country Airlines announced Monday it will offer a new route from Dallas to Liberia during the summer vacation months from June to August 2020. "This flight from the Sun Country Airlines will be operating during the months of June, July and August 2020, opening new opportunities for the promotion of Costa Rica in the Texas market," said María Amalia Revelo, minister of Tourism. The flights will be every Saturday starting June 13 and ending Aug. 15. The flight's itinerary is: The Liberia flight will leave Dallas/Fort Worth Airport at 8 a.m. and arrive at Daniel Oduber Inernational Airport at 11:05 a.m. The return flight the same day will leaves Daniel Oduber Airport at 12.05 p.m. and arrived at Dallas Fort Worth Airport at 5:10 p.m. "We are excited to add this new route to the Daniel Oduber International Airport and to serve Dallas/Fort Worth," said Grant Whitney, head of revenue for Sun Country. "We are also committed to connecting guests in an affordable way with their favorite people, places and memories, and we hope to bring that commitment to Costa Rica. We believe that guests will enjoy our low rates, excellent customer service and comfortable onboard experience. " The airline does not offer flights from Dallas, Texas, to Juan Santamaría International Airport in Alajuela. Sun Country Airlines was founded in 1982 by a small group of pilots and hostesses in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn., and in 1983 opened operations with a flight between Sioux Falls and Las Vegas.  On Nov 2, JetBlue airline inaugurated the new route between Juan Santamaría International Airport in the province of Alajuela and John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. The Airbus A320 schedule between New York and Alajuela are Friday, Sunday and Tuesday. The New York- Costa Rica trip departs at 6:25 p.m. The Costa Rica-New York trip departs at 11:59 p.m. "The U. S. continues to represent the main tourist market," said the institute in its statement. “We are very pleased to recover one of the strongest connections the country has had over the years with the United States, such as New York,” said María Amalia Revelo, minister of Tourism and president of the Institute of Tourism. According to the institute, people look for this airline for its comfort, excellent service, economy and positive reputation internationally. "This flight is intended not only for the traveler who thinks of vacations but also for the one who thinks of business," Revelo said. This year, JetBlue also celebrated its 10th anniversary of flights to Costa Rica. The Orlando-San José route was the first in 2009. JetBlue currently offers direct flights from Costa Rica to Fort Lauderdale and Orlando and now New York. The airline, originally from New York, transports more than 42 million passengers per year to more than 100 different cities in the United States, the Caribbean and Latin America with an average of 1,000 daily flights. According to the Travel Styles USA study in 2018, the interest in visiting Costa Rica is the maximum in the history of American tourists. 44.7% of travelers from that country show that preference. Costa Rica is followed by Mexico with 42.7% and Brazil with 39%, said the study. According to the institute, during 2018 the currencies generated by tourists from Canada and the United States amounted to about $1.3 billion. Data from the General Directorate of Migration and processed by the Costa Rican Tourism Institute, from this January to September, 460,027 international arrivals have been registered at the Daniel Oduber airport in Guanacaste, of which 75% are from the United States main tourist market for the country.
