Sports motorcycling can
resume activities

By the A.M. Costa Rica staff

The Ministry of Sports authorized the implementation of the sanitary measures of the Ministry of Health for the activation of competitive motorcycling, making this activity the first motorsport in the country authorized to return to the slopes for the development of its practices.

According to the Ministry, 600 accredited riders such as Motocross, Enduro, Cross Country, High Displacement Moto and Speed Moto, will be able to return to their training on the 9 tracks located in Puriscal, Corralillo de Cartago, Sabanilla de Alajuela, San Mateo, Santa Ana, San Carlos, Guácimo, Pérez Zeledón and Parque Viva.

Among the measures that motorcyclists must comply with are constant hand washing, different schedules for people at risk, a prior appointment for the use of the tracks, application of social bubbles in the case of spectators, use of face masks inside the facilities, among others.

According to the Federation of Motorcyclists, the process to reactivate the facilities of this type of sports activity began in early May.

"We have developed an arduous and a joint effort between us and the office of the Minister of Sport for the development of these guidelines that will allow us to return to practice, after two months of suspension," said Marco Cercone, president of the Federation.

According to the sports ministry, there are 14 types of sports that have already started their return from training.

Among other details, pilots must abide by the protocol called Specific Procedures Guide for the implementation of the sanitary provisions of the Ministry of Health, for the practice of its modalities as follows:

• Motorcycles must abide by driving ban regulations based on their license plate.

• When entering the facilities where the practice will be carried out, drivers must comply with the guidelines of hand washes with soap and water, otherwise, there should be an alcohol gel dispenser available.

• Each pilot must bring a personal cleaning kit.

• Within the facilities of the training track, there will only be 25% of the capacity of entry of people.

• Only the staff and pilots accredited to the federation with one person as a companion belonging to their social bubbles can enter the tracks.

• The coordination and designation of the training schedule will be by appointment. For this, the drivers will have to communicate with those responsible for the training track.

• There will be no contact between people to enter the track and during the waiting spaces between each training shift, both pilots and those responsible for the administration of each track. They will also not be able to share motorcycles, sports equipment, tools, drinks or food.

• Drivers who have symptoms of fever, cough, stuffy nose, a sore throat will not be able to enter the tracks.

Another sport recently authorized to reopen activities was the soccer championship.

The Ministry of Health authorized contact sports such as soccer to resume competition but behind closed doors.

As of May 16, the professional soccer championship resumed. However, despite this authorization, only the men's soccer league is holding its championship because the Soccer Federation canceled women's soccer championship and the minor leagues.
