By the A.M. Costa Rica staff
The Conte Burica Development Association installed 46 solar panels in the indigenous community of Ngöbes located in Alto Río Claro, Golfito Canton, Puntarenas Province. "Having these solar panels will benefit families with students, due to sometimes it is difficult for them to do school homework because of the lack of electricity," Roberto Guerra Tugri, representative of the association said.
Starting this month, a helicopter will be used to install 60 more solar panels in the indigenous communities of Alto Carona, Campo Verde, Las Palmas, Alto Guaymí and Caña Blanca, the association said.
This project to generate energy through solar panels in the indigenous territory of Conte Burica is developed by the Institute of Social Aid and the Public National University of Distance Learning.

According to the ministry, the program to purchase 300 solar panels to be installed in remote areas valued at $54,000.
This plan has been led by the university since 2017, when they financed the trip of three indigenous women to India, to be trained in the installation of solar panels.
The women "Martina Caballero, Lucía Montezuma and Ovidia Caballero, traveled to Barefoot College in Tilonia, India, for six months, where they learned how to install the panels,” according to the university. The total cost of travel for the three women to India was not released by the university.
