Despite the economic and health crisis caused by the covid-19 pandemic, Social Security announced progress in the construction of $2,419,570 budgeted improvements on three public clinics, so-called Ebais, in Cartago Province.
According to the authorities, the first public clinic is built in San Juan Norte District with an approximate cost of $763,470. The second public clinic is built in Frailes District with an investment of approximately $814,150. The third public clinic is built in Santa Elena District with a cost of approximately $841,950.
With the services provided by Ebais, more than 22,000 people will be attended from those communities, which had "a delay of more than 20 years in the improvement of the conditions to receive health services," Social Security said in its statement.
The old clinics were built in very small areas that limited health services to people, and even a room located inside a school had to be used to care for patients, they said.
In the case of Ebais de San Juan Norte, due to the short land available for construction, the new clinic was built like a multi-story building. This building "complies with environmental efficiency standards and has access for people with disabilities," Eduardo Amador-Zúñiga, a representative of Social Security said.
The new Ebais will allow medical professionals to provide better health services, such as 17 areas for nebulization with the installation of oxygen pipes, dentistry with modern technology equipment, primary care, laboratory testing, screening for health conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, treatment of mild symptoms, such as headache, cough, and sore throat, treatment of minor injuries such as mild cuts, scrapes, or burnsand among many others in a better space to attend patients.
Since 2018, authorities had planned the construction of these clinics, however, in 2020 with the onset of the pandemic, adjustments had to be made in the projects to continue with the constructions taking into account the sanitary guidelines. The new clinics are scheduled to open in July.
