during the Festival de la Luz By the A.M. Costa Rica staff The Red Cross treated 105 people during the Festival de La Luz organized by the Municipality of San Jose and that took place on Saturday. According to a report, 34 men and 71 women were helped. Of these, 22 people for physical injuries, 81 people for health problems and two who presented problems such as cramping or leg pains. No children with health problems were reported. And none was lost. According to the Red Cross, 100 paramedics and 36 ambulances were covering along the festival route. Also, the police, know as Fuerza Pública in Spanish, reported no arrests or major conflicts during the parade. In addition, the municipality announced Sunday, the winners of the crafted float in the categories of originality, brightness and animation. These were the National Institute of Insurance in the first place, the food processing company DEMASA in second place and the Bank of Costa Rica in third place. According to the National Insurance Institute, the float was inspired in the fairs held in rural villages, known as turnos in Spanish. The Municipal Band of Acosta won first place in that category, the Municipal Band of Zarcero followed in the second place, and the communal Band of Orotina won third place. According to the municipality, the festival took place in order and without any emergency. However, at 7 p.m. the engineers of the National Electricity Company, had to make a quick cut of electric power along the festival route, because some materials, such as serpentine streamer, a type of party accessory made out of long strips of paper, wound up in a roll, was entangled in electric wires causing risk of a short circuit. At the end of the festival, around 10 p.m., workers of the municipality cleaned the streets and dismantle of the platforms from where some of the public saw the parade. At 6 a.m. on Sunday, the rout of the festival, from Paseo Colón to China town was clean and open to the traffic. There were 10 professionally produced floats in the festival, and 16 bands marched through the streets of San José. Also in the parade were the three marshals to whom the festival was dedicated, the athletes Andrea and Noelia Vargas and their mother and coach, Dixiana Mena. A major attraction of the parade are the floats. This year the other institutions and companies participated were the Children's Museum, the Kölbi brand of the Costa Rican Electrical Institute, the Costa Rican Tourism Institute, Huawei, Coopenae and the private Autonomous University of Central America. The Festival de la Luz was created in 1996 when the Municipality of San José organized the first parade of floats and school bands.
