Switzerland requesting funds to help
immigrants

Sunday President Carlos Alvarado traveled to Geneva, Switzerland, where he will join in the first World Refugee Forum to be held Tuesday. The World Refugee Forum was to open with an early session today and continue until Wednesday at the Palace of the Nations in Geneva. According to the presidential press team, Alvarado has the goal of obtaining funds to address the flows of migrants and refugees. Prior to the inauguration of the forum, Alvarado will meet with Filippo Grandi, the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, where they will talk about migratory flows and the request for international cooperation to help immigrants, said the press team. According to the government press staff, Alvarado will also present his national decarbonization plan to representatives of the financial sector of the Sustainable Finance Geneva. Alvarado travels with Foreign Minister Manuel Ventura, Vice Minister Carlos Torres and Raquel Vargas, director of Immigration. Alvarado and his team are scheduled to return Thursday. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Alvarado will travel to the United Arab Emirates in January. The trip to Geneva is the second to Europe for Alvarado in less than a month. In Nov 30, Alvarado traveled to Spain to join in the inauguration of the COP25 summit, which was held in Madrid. On Nov. 28, Alvarado traveled to Uruguay in response to an invitation from President Tabaré Vázquez. In November, Alvarado traveled to New York to receive an award as one of the world’s most influential people, according to Time magazine, at the TIME Next 100 Summit gala. Some of the previous president Alvarado trips this year were: In October Alvarado traveled to Mexico to met President Andrés Manuel López-Obrador. In September Alvarado traveled to New York to be part of the U.N. General Assembly meeting. He also received the 2019 Champions of the Earth award in the category of political leadership for his National Decarbonization Plan 2018-2050. On the eve of his speech at the 74th General Assembly of the United Nations, Alvarado along with the first lady, Claudia Dobles visited the site of the recreation of the rain forest from the Costa Rican Tourism Institute being held at Brookfield Place in New York. Also in September, Alvarado made his third trip to Panamá this year, where he met with President Laurentino Cortizo to speak on issues related to immigration, security and trade, among others. In June president Alvarado traveled to El Salvador to attend the inauguration of the new Salvadorian president, Nayib Bukele. In May Alvarado traveled to Germany to meet President Frank Walter Steinmeier and also to meet with Chancellor Angela Merkel. In February, Alvarado traveled to Panamá to meet with the former president of the country, Juan Carlos Varela. In January, Alvarado traveled to Panamá to participate in a Catholic Youth event held with Pope Francis. -------------------- Where else should President Alvarado travel?
