President announces new minister of Labor after the controversial resignation of the previous minister

By the A.M. Costa Rica staff

President Carlos Alvarado announced on Thursday that Geannina Dinarte Romero will be the new minister of Labor, replacing the former minister, Steven Nuñez.

Nuñez resigned this week after a traffic officer died in a traffic accident while he was escorting the vehicle in which the minister was traveling to the province of Limón*.

Apparently, Nuñez did not carry out the correct process to request that transit officers escort him.

"Today, due to extremely unfortunate circumstances, when I was heading to the province of Limón to attend an activity of my own charge, the Transit Officer Juan Carlos Mora, died by providing his collaboration so that I could arrive on time for the event," said. the minister in his resignation, “This unfortunate fact, which I am very sorry for, forces me to take a step next to the government that you lead (referring to President Alvarado) then my situation does not affect the political project that you have outlined. ”

Nuñez left office on Tuesday.

The president referred to the resignation of the minister in a short message saying, “I have received the resignation of the Minister of Labor, Steven Nuñez. I thank you for your work in various works that you carried out in my government. ”

According to the authorities, the investigation on the escort request made by the minister is being carried out.

Dinarte, she has a degree in political science, with an emphasis on government and public policy, and has a master's degree in development project management at the Central American Institute of Public Administration," said the Ministry of Labor in a statement.
