President Alvarado makes third trip to Panama in 2019

On the third trip to Panama this year, President Carlos Alvarado met with President Laurentino Cortizo, where they spoke on issues related to immigration, security, and trade, among others.
President Alvarado also met with Marlene Alejos, representative of the High Commissioner for Human Rights for Central America.
"Costa Rica considers it pertinent to raise its voice about the causes of immigration and refuge and guarantees people human rights," said President Alvarado.
In this meeting, the visit to Costa Rica was announced in December by Michelle Bachelet, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
On this trip, the president was accompanied by Minister of Security, Michael Soto, Minister of Foreign Affairs Lorena Aguilar, Director General of Foreign Policy Adriana Solano, and Ambassador of Costa Rica in Panama, Gioconda Ubeda.
In June, President Alvarado had to cancel another trip to Panama as part of the presidential act of welcoming the newly-elected President Laurentino Cortizo. This trip was canceled during a time of protests by the public employee unions of the Ministry of Education and truck transporters.
In February, President Alvarado traveled to Panama to meet with the former president of the country Juan Carlos Varela.
In January, President Alvardo traveled to Panama to participate in the Catholic Youth event held with Pope Francis.
