By the A.M. Costa Rica staff The Security and Drug Trafficking Commission in the Congress are analyzing bill No.21511 entitled "Law to Prevent Foreigners with Criminal Records from Obtaining Costa Rican Naturalization." As part of the analysis, a series of motions were presented by some deputies, forcing a meeting with the authorities of the General Directorate of Civil Aviation and the General Directorate of Migration. According to the Congress, the deputies are contemplating including exceptions to the law when it comes to refugees who had criminal records due to their condition of deserters from political regimes, as is the case in Cuba. Other cases of exception should be made, such as when people have a criminal record for the persecution from their country of origin for having belonged to a criminal organization but they have been reintegrated into society, Congress said in its statement. It is expected that in the next few days, the deputies will carry out the second round of voting to determine whether to approve or reject the bill. What do you think about this bill against foreigners with criminal records to be naturalized Costa Ricans? We would like to know your thoughts on this story.
