146 passengers test negative for сoronavirus By the A.M. Costa Rica staff Authorities of the Ministry of Health confirmed that in the country there are no cases of patients with coronavirus. According to the ministry, all the people who have been tagged as suspicious cases, have performed the medical examinations and have been detected with other types of common respiratory viruses. No person has been positive for the coronavirus COVID 19, the ministry said. In airports 149 cases of passengers suspected of having the virus have been treated. However, after medical results, the coronavirus has been ruled out. According to the authorities, the pilots are those who report travelers with the first symptom of risk, which is body temperature. Immediately, airport authorities should notify the Ministry of Health about the suspected case, under the existing rules. "The pilot places the aircraft to be received in the special rooms where the person with symptoms descends for the respective analysis by the paramedics," said the authorities in its statement. In both international airports, Juan Santamaría in Alajuela and Daniel Oduber in Guanacaste, special rooms have been set up to proceed with a medical test to travelers who are detected with a fever greater than or equal to 38 C about 100.4 F. After deeper medical examinations, all 146 individuals have been ruled out as having the coronavirus. However, the authorities said they will continue with a follow-up of 14 additional days for each of the travelers. This is because that is the period of incubation of the coronavirus, experts say. If the patient presents a condition that may be consistent with carrying the virus, the health authorities are notified and the individual is transported to a hospital for boarding and isolation. Remaining passengers are interviewed. Authorities of the Ministry of Health say that no traveler has yet been found suspected of having the coronavirus. According to medical authorities, four types of coronaviruses are common, human coronavirus 229E, human coronavirus OC43, human coronavirus NL63 and human coronavirus HKU 1. Also, there are other common respiratory viruses. In clinics, and hospitals in the country, both public and private, people who have been treated by specialists, have given positive results but only for the common viruses. None of the people served at border clinics or terminals, such as airports, border posts or seaports, has been positive with COVID- 19. Last week, the National Laboratory reported already able to implement the specific lab test to diagnose the disease known as coronavirus COVID-19, the officials said. According to the ministry, the test is a molecular one known as a real-time polymerase chain reaction, PCR-TR. If a suspicious case arises, the test is able to rule out or confirm the presence of the lethal virus without having to send the sample outside the country. However, this important resource will be available only to Health authorities who will decide which samples will be processed in the laboratory. In addition, the Health authorities reported that the surveillance guidelines for the disease were updated. The case definition now includes people who have been in countries with native coronavirus cases in the last month. In addition, the patient must have a fever greater than or equal to 38 C about 100.4 F, cough or sore throat and, in the most severe cases, respiratory distress. There is no report of a Costa Rican being affected by the coronavirus. However. due to the easy transmission of the virus, the arrival of the virus to this country is very likely, said the ministry in its statement. Due to the possible entry of the virus into the country, the authorities remember “the importance of continuing with the correct form of hand washing and sneezing, which should be applied at any time and at any time of the year, since they prevent respiratory viruses, as well like the microorganisms that produce diarrheal symptoms.
