President Carlos Alvarado inaugurated the Chorotega Wholesale Market in Iguanita*, Guanacaste on Wednesday. At the market, 6,500 producers from nearby communities are expected to sell agricultural products, the government said.

According to the government, the construction of the market was financed with a loan of $48 million from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration.

In the inauguration, authorities of the Rural Development Institute also announced the signing of an agreement to transfer funds to the Municipality of Carrillo to be invested in the repair of 1.5 km of the road to the market.

"Currently, residents have problems because the poor state of the road makes it difficult for them to take out agricultural production, go to work, to medical appointments, among other activities," said the government in its statement.

The company MECO, in charge of building the access road to the market, also announced the donation of the value of soil studies and road designs.

Also, the Rural Institute announced another donation of a 1,200 square meter property, to the Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers. This property is next to the market and will be used for the construction of a pumping station to guarantee drinking water in the market, throughout the year, the institute said.

According to Tourism Institute, the provinces of Guanacaste is one of the most popular in Costa Rica: "It has gained a name for itself as a tropical paradise with a pristine shoreline, beautiful mountain ranges and many volcanoes. Visitors are drawn to the long summer days, active culture and unparalleled wildlife."
