Government invests more than $2 million in pipeline construction and improvements in Guanacaste By the A.M. Costa Rica staff The National Water Service announced the investment of $2,418,292 for the construction and repair of pipelines in various places in the province of Guanacaste*. The pipelines to repair are located in Guayabo*, San Bernardo* and Miravalles*. Also, the Escobio Pipelines Project will be developed, as well the reconstruction of a new canal to redirect water from the San Luis dam to the areas of Abangares* and Cañas*. The pipelines constructions include networks of secondary pipelines, hydraulic structures and the development of more irrigation systems on more than 2,000 hectares of agricultural land. According to the government, the places that will benefit from the improvements will be Bagaces, Cañas, Abangares, and Liberia. "In Guanacaste, the drought season is long. A solution is the irrigation canals," said Renato Alvarado, minister of Agriculture and Livestock. "This is in the long-term period that provides a comprehensive solution as long as the people use the water resource optimally and responsibly." Monday the government also announced the Grazing Management Program with an investment of $1,078,394 in 277 cattle ranches and farms in the province of Guanacaste, as A.M. Costa Rica reported. The program begins with the ranches and farms that were affected by the drought lasting from 2014 to 2016. The investment will finance laying out grazing areas within the properties. At 100 farms 5.5 hectares will be marked off. At 177 ranches the grazing tracts will be 100 hectares. Around each area, an electric fence will be installed inside which livestock will feed on the grass. After the cattle exhaust the grass, the animals will be taken to another fenced area. The goal of rotation or moving of livestock to different feeding areas is to avoid overgrazing, soil degradation and allow enough time for the grass to renew and be in optimal conditions in the face of another possible drought season, said the government. According to the ministry with the management of the grazing areas, ranchers would no longer have to buy additional forage during the dry season, which would reduce the costs of meat production. ----------------------------- Have you heard of any place where you need to build pipelines in your community?
