Florida
Caribbean Cruise Association
will hold fifth edition of
the Central American Cruise
Conference in Costa Rica

The Florida Caribbean Cruise
Association, FCCA, conference
will be held at the Convention
Center of Costa Rica, from May
22 to 24, with 250
representatives of cruise ships
and executives of the 16 main
cruise lines in the world.
The Florida Caribbean Cruise
Association, created in 1972, is
a not-for-profit trade
organization of 21 member cruise
lines operating nearly 200
vessels in Floridian, Caribbean,
and Latin American waters.
This specialized forum, now in
its fifth edition, is designed
to promote a better
understanding of the work of
that industry and to promote
relations among professionals in
Central America.
According to the Ministry of
Tourism, the conference will
also provide extensive
information to cruise executives
on the importance and benefits
of Costa Rica.
"Our goal is to promote Costa
Rica in the world as a
profitable destination for the
cruise industry," said Maria
Amalia Revelo, Minister of
Tourism of Costa Rica. "We are
very grateful to the FCCA for
making the fifth edition of the
Central American Cruise
Conference in our country."
The activity is open to
businessmen who do or seek to do
business in the cruise industry
of Central America, such as port
authorities, tour operators,
government officials, cruise and
tourism agencies, suppliers and
shipping agents.
During the event, workshops will
be offered to help attendees do
business with the cruise
industry.
The Ministry says the sessions
will provide information on how
to be successful and excel in
the cruise industry today, with
topics such as:
- The creation and evolution of
a successful tourism product.
- The maintenance of that
success.
- Developing a cruise port.
- Why and how cruise lines
choose to invest or partner with
a destination/port.
- Ways to involve the public and
private sectors in the cruise
industry.
- Lessons learned by other
destinations that address
problems and experience an
improvement in cruise tourism
through their actions.
"This event was created to
assist businessmen in this
rapidly developing market, and
understandings to improve their
cruise tourism business," said
Michele M. Paige, president of
FCCA. "So, if somebody is based
in Central America and want to
increase business with the
cruise industry, I invite to
attend this event so we can grow
together."
According to statistics from the
Ministry of Tourism, the value
of cruise passengers for the
year 2018 was $8.4 million.
In total, these cruises
represented the arrival of more
than 255,000 passengers who
invested in some activities in
the country, which means an
important impact in the
reactivation of the local
economy of the coastal
communities.
The five cruise ports of the
country are in Puntarenas*,
Caldera*,
Limón*, Golfito*,
and Quepos*.
Where periodically receive
cruises that are constantly
growing in recent years, with a
positive impact on the economic
development of the communities.
According to statistics from the
Costa Rican Tourism Institute,
during the 2017-2018 season 51.1
percent of cruise passengers
arrived in Puntarenas*
and Limón*.
The average passenger was over
65 years old and 46.1 percent
were men and 53.9 percent were
women. Tourists are mainly from
the United States (62.4
percent), Europe (17.3 percent)
and Canada (13 percent).
