President Carlos Alvarado and
his delegation completed their
work tour on Thursday by
visiting the National
Aeronautics and Space
Administration in California.
President Alvarado said that his
goal with this tour had been
finding investment for new jobs
in Costa Rica. He has visited
important companies and
technological research centers
in Seattle, Silicon Valley, and
San Francisco in that pursuit.
The president's goal in visiting
NASA was to learn about the
opportunities for collaboration
and knowledge transfer for
de-carbonization, in the
programs that involve Costa
Ricans and the perception of
this institution about the role
of Costa Rica in the technology
industry.
The president and his companions
were received by the directors
of NASA and they discussed,
among other topics, about the
possibility of expanding
scholarship and internship
opportunities for Costa Ricans.
An example of a Costa Rican
working at NASA is scientist
Franklin Chang, Costa Rican/
Chinese American, mechanical
engineer, physicist, and former
astronaut.
In 1977 he became an American
citizen, but also he is
considered the first Latin
American NASA Astronaut selected
to go into space.
After the visit to NASA, the
president visited the World
Economic Forum in San Francisco,
California. This week the WEF
recognized President Alvarado as
Young Global Leader 2019.
According to the press
department of the Presidential
House, at the meeting, President
Alvarado followed up on the
topics discussed at the annual
meeting of the Forum that took
place in Davos, Switzerland,
last February.
The president had proposed to
Klaus Schwab, founder of the
WEF, the installation of a
center for the 4th Industrial
Revolution in Costa Rica.
As the last activity of the
tour, the president met with
wholesale buyers of coffee,
where he learned new ways to
"improve the sustainability of
Costa Rican coffee."
According to the Presidential
House, President Alvarado
obtained positive results per
his extensive tour in the U.S.
For example, INTEL Company is
going to support the Smart
Community Centers in Costa
Rica.

discussed, among

"These centers are
spaces for
innovation so that
people can access
new opportunities,
be trained in
technologies and
generate business
ideas, especially
for young
generations," said
President Alvarado.
Another positive
result, according to
Presidential House
is that the Cloudera
Company will open a
technical support
center in Costa Rica
for its clients in
the United States
and Latin America.
The president is
being accompanied on
the work tour by
Dyalá Jiménez,
Minister of Foreign
Trade, and Jorge
Sequeira, general
manager of the Costa
Rican Coalition of
Development
Initiatives.
More information
about president’s
achievements during
his meetings with
the rest of the
