The police last weekend
stopped a Salvadoran citizen
named Garcia in Heredia*
and found that he was of
‘illegal immigration status.’
The police reported that
Garcia worked in an auto shop
near the soccer plaza in San Francisco
in Heredia*.
The police were on a routine
patrol when they saw a man
tattooed with the letters ‘MS.’
MS is often tattooed on members
of the gang, Mara Salvatrucha.
When police requested
identification, Garcia replied
that he had no identity
documents. Police report that
they then detained Mr. Garcia.
After the detention, police
worked in coordination with
special agents of the
Immigration and Foreigners
Directorate, who completed the
paperwork to verify the identity
of the suspect with the police
of El Salvador.
"It was confirmed that he was
a Salvadoran citizen who was
registered as an alleged member
of MS13 (Mara Salvatrucha 2013),
who had also been arrested in
the United States in 2009 for
the crime of robbery and
deported in October 2015 from
that country to El Salvador,
after serving his sentence in
prison,” said the police report.
The officers of the Migration
and Immigration Directorate will
keep the suspect in the judicial
cells, during the deportation
process to El Salvador since he
committed the crime of illegally
entering Costa Rica.
On Feb 11, as reported on A.M.
Costa Rica, a Canadian citizen
surnamed Den-Hann was arrested
at the Daniel Oduber
International Airport in
Guanacaste*. He had a
criminal record and links to a
criminal and drug trafficking
gang.
The police report that when
Den-Hann entered the immigration
control post, workers found that
he had a criminal record and was
allegedly part of a gang linked
to drug trafficking and
organized crime. They refused to
allow Den-Hann into the
country.
Stephen Madden, deputy
director of the Migration
Professional Police said, "the
mechanisms of migratory control
and the execution of the police
actions by the immigration
officers, allow us to continue
ensuring the national security,
especially avoiding the entry of
foreigners with dangerous
profiles or cases in which Costa
Ricans are involved, also
ensuring their safety and
compliance with the law."
Immigration police report that
Den-Hann was sent to immigration
cells to await the next flight
to Canada.
In another case of foreigner
arrested by Migration police,
on January 7, border officials
in Golfito*
detained an U.S. citizen,
surnamed Mohns, age 38,
because he had two arrest
warrants from the state of
Florida.

The

According
to the police report,
Mohns was identified
by officials during a
regular operation
carried out in the
town of Golfito*.
During that police
action, the officers
were checking the
papers of foreigners
in the area and found
that the identity
documents from Mohns
placed him in an
irregular migratory
status.
The problem with his
U.S. passport alerted
the local police who
researched information
on international
warrants provided by
the U.S. police. That
search confirmed that
Mohns has two active
arrest warrants issued
in 2018.
"The first arrest
warrant was issued by
the State of Florida
for the crime of
aggravated assault and
attempted robbery with
a gun. The second
alert was issued by
Virginia for the crime
of drug possession,"
said the border police
report.
In addition to the
two arrest warrants,
police report that
Mohns has an extensive
criminal record in the
U.S. for possession of
drugs, violence
against the
authorities, robberies
and for violating
traffic laws.
The border police
took Mohns to the
Immigration Detention
Center in
Paso Canoas*,
where he was
extradited to the
United States.
