The Acosta Municipal
Band will participate in the
Rose Parade in Pasadena California
on Tuesday. The band is a premier
band in Costa Rica and this is the
first time it is participating in
the famous parade that precedes the
Rose Bowl.
The band was founded 10 years ago
and includes 150 musicians and
dancers. It will be the only Latin
American band in the parade.
In August, the parade's president,
Gerald Freeny, personally presented
the Rose Parade flag to the band
during a special band concert in the
Events Hall of San
Ignacio de Acosta.
President Carlos Alvarado issued a
special decree announcing the band
as part of the "Essential Costa
Rica" brand, which makes the band a
promoter of the Costa Rican culture.
"You represent the best of our
country, our culture, our traditions
of peace, our talent and our values
that we must defend and protect,"
said President Alvarado.
Jose Manuel Mora, director of the
band, said the participation of the
band in this world famous parade
"will be an open window to show our
country's art and music."
