Los Angeles
County says U.S. citizen sexual
assault suspect died in Costa Rica

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s
Department’s Special Victims
Bureau said an investigation into
the sexual assault of a child from
2006 to 2011 has ended with the
death of the suspect. The
principal suspect was a swim
instructor in Santa Clarita who
was located finally in Costa Rica,
detectives reported.
The victim told detectives that he
had been assaulted by a man named
Jeremy Anderson, who was his swim
instructor at an Aquatics Club in
Santa Clarita, they said.
The allegations were brought to
the attention of the Sheriff’s
Department by a representative
from SafeSport.
Safesport is an organization
entrusted with the authority to
respond to reports of sexual
misconduct with the U.S. Olympic
and Paralympic Movements, the
sheriff's department said.
As the investigation evolved,
detectives identified additional
victims. The incidents with these
multiple victims occurred at
various locations between 2006 and
2017. Anderson’s conduct
included having sexually explicit
conversations with the victims and
soliciting child pornography, the
detectives said.
Detectives said they presented the
results of the investigation to
the Los Angeles County District
Attorney’s Office last Dec.
18. The District Attorney’s
Office filed 19 counts of lewd
acts with a child and possession
of child pornography against
Anderson, they said.
Detectives said they learned
Anderson left the United States
before he could be arrested, and
an arrest warrant was issued for
him at the time.

Costa Rica. But before he
could be extradited to the United
States, Anderson was hospitalized
in Costa Rica, detectives said.
Detectives said that on Friday
they received confirmation from
the U.S. Marshal’s Office that
Anderson had died while
hospitalized.
