U.S. citizen
detained at Daniel Oduber
airport on suspicion of adult
abuse

The migration police of Daniel
Oduber International Airport in Liberia*,
detained a U.S. citizen surnamed
Thomas who was about to leave the
country on suspicion of adult
abuse.
The police report that the family
of an 18 year old woman filed a
complaint against Thomas for
having touched the young woman in
an improper manner.
"The Professional Migration Police
not only ensures the correct
execution of immigration control,"
said Alonso Soto, Assistant
Director of Professional Migration
Police. "This type of crime, or as
human trafficking, compromises the
integrity of the people, and
therefore, the police act in
compliance to protect citizens and
tourists."
Police took the suspect to the
Prosecutor's Office of Liberia
where he was accused of abuse of
an adult. He must wait there
until he sees a judge who will
determine the pre-trial detention
measures against him.
In another case of an U.S. citizen
detained by Migration Police, as
was reported in A.M. Costa Rica on
January 7, officials of the border
police in Golfito*
detained a man surnamed Mohns, age
38, as having two arrest warrants
from the state of Florida.
According to the police report,
Mohns was identified by officials
during a regular operation carried
out in the town of Puerto Jiménez
in Golfito.
During that police action, the
officers were checking the papers
of foreigners in the area and
found that the identity documents
from Mohns placed him in an
irregular migratory status.
The problem with his U.S. passport
alerted the local police who
researched information on
international warrants provided by
the U.S. police. That search
confirmed that Mohns has two
active arrest warrants issued in
2018.
"The first arrest warrant was
issued by the State of Florida for
the crime of aggravated assault
and attempted robbery with a gun.
The second alert was issued by
Virginia for the crime of drug
possession," said the border
police report.
In addition to the two arrest
warrants, police report that Mohns
has an extensive criminal record
in the U.S. for possession of
drugs, violence against the
authorities, robberies and for
violating traffic laws.
The border police took Mohns to
the Immigration Detention Center
in Paso Canoas, where he was
extradited to the United States.
