The National Forest Financing Fund and Fundecooperación are offering loans of approximately $1,795,000 to women entrepreneurs with projects for the protection of forests or ecotourism among other activities.
The first type of loan is promoted by Fonafifo of $8,000, for a 10-year term and an interest rate of 4% per year. The requirement to get the loan is to have a person who qualifies as a guarantor. The money must be used for working capital, infrastructure, equipment and innovative projects related to the forest. People interested in a loan can obtain more information on the Fonafifo website.
They are also offering Payment for Environmental Services, which is a government program that pays for forest protection. This is a type of bond paid by the government to a landowner in exchange for protecting forests for mitigating greenhouse gas emissions, protecting biodiversity and springs.
These payments are not loans, neither require collateral guarantees such as mortgages. People interested in this grant can find more information on the Fonafifo website.
A third financing option is a loan of approximately $16,000 offered by Fundecooperación, with a maximum term of five years. The requirement is to have a guarantee that supports the loan, either a mortgage or a guarantor. However, if the person does not meet these requirements, he or she could request an endorsement from the Aid Institute. More information about these loans can be obtained on the Fundecooperación website.
