Online ordering available for sanitizer alcohol By the A.M. Costa Rica staff Sanitizing alcohol for cleaning use will be available for online purchase and delivery, starting March 17. The National Liquor Factory will start selling antiseptic liquid, not gel. The contents will be alcohol for hand hygiene or home sanitizer and it will be in 350 ml bottles. The product can be purchased online at CRpreviene.com for the price of ¢2,750 colones, approximately $5 each. Home deliveries may be picked up at any Costa Rican post office nearest you or at any of the 103 smart post office boxes, known as API, located throughout the country. Product deliveries may be monitored with a tracking code from the Costa Rica Previene website. The list of places where the product can be delivered will also be listed on the website. However, to avoid speculation, the site will only allow the purchase of two bottles per month per person, authorities said. That antiseptic solution for hand and home sanitation is a chemical formula that has been endorsed and recommended by the World Health Organization, due to the high control and neutralization of bacteria and viruses. It has a higher percentage of alcohol than gel sanitizer, said the authorities of the factory. The Ministry of Health alerted about products announced as tonics to prevent or treat covid-19.  According to specialists, these handmade tonics are fake and are a health risk. The products have been identified with the following brands: Plata Coloidal, Cobre Coloidal, Zinc Coloidal, Oro Coloidal and Magnesio Coloidal. These products are being advertised on social media like Facebook as a tonic to cure and prevent covid-19, said the ministry. The products were manufactured by a company called Pelysch, S.A., which turned out to be a clandestine laboratory, authorities said after carrying out a raid at the factory. The clandestine laboratory does not have a sanitary operation permit, nor does it maintain hygienic production practices. The products sold by that company represent a health risk, as they may contain microorganisms and the actual ingredients they contain are unknown, authorities said. "The population is reminded to be careful about websites and establishments that sell products that claim to prevent, mitigate, treat, diagnose or cure covid-19," said the ministry. --------------------------- Have you heard about the selling of products to prevent or cure covid-19 in your community?
