Ombudsman rejects a request to increase
electricity rates by 6.24 percent

The Ombudsman presented the Regulatory Authority of Public Services, known as Aresep, its rejection of the proposal from the National Electricity Company that intended to increase the rate of electricity by 6.24 percent starting October 1st.
According to the Ombudsman, in the documents of the proposed increase, the financial results of the national electricity company were presented between October 2017 and December 2018.
"The Ombudsman has found that not all the elements of the request respond to reasonable criteria and do not have the adequate justification, which is why the intended rate increase could not be granted," said the Ombudsman in its statement.
According to the Ombudsman, the current methodology for determining new rates allows public companies to include budget deficits.
The National Electricity Company is expected to respond to the Ombudsman's decision about the rejection.
