Oedipus the King to be performed at the National Theater

The National Theater* in San José downtown, in a co-production with the University of Costa Rica will present the play "Edipo Rey", directed by Luis Carlos Vasquez.

Oedipus Rex, or Oedipus the King is an Athenian tragedy by Sophocles that was first performed around 429 BC.

The story is about the people of Thebes, who are plagued and desperate. The inhabitants ask for help from their Oedipus the King.

King Oedipus, very scared, worried, and nervous consults the oracle. He learns that the epidemic is a punishment from the gods and as long as King Layo's killer is not found, the plague will not cease.

King Oedipus begins investigations to find the perpretator of the crime.

The king learns that his true father is King Layo whom he killed and his mother is Yocasta, to whom he is married and has had children with.

This is when King Oedipus starts confronting his life.

The October schedule will be presented as follows:

- Saturday the 19th at 8 p.m.

- Sunday the 20th, there are two performances, at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

- Friday the 25th, there are two performances, at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.

- Saturday the 26th, there are two performances at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.

The price of a ticket is $17 and can be purchased at the theater box office.
