Obituary for Norman Sklar
Just 10 days short of his 75th Birthday, Norman Sklar living in Escazú, Costa Rica, unexpectedly passed away on August 16th, 2019.
Norman, son of Bertha and Samuel Sklar, grew up in Philadelphia, PA. He is survived by brother Ron Sklar of New Mexico and his wife Laurie from Connecticut.
Norman’s work in the New York Garment Industry brought him to Costa Rica 31 years ago, having worked the Caribbean and Central American manufacturing scene many years prior. Varied career opportunities continued throughout Norman’s life within Costa Rica and other countries. He also lived and worked in Guatemala, Panama, Miami, and beyond!

| Norman extensively trained in the Martial Arts for over 40 years, also was advanced in the practice of Tai Chi and a was a triple Black Belt (though I don’t recall the specific disciplines) with a deep interest and knowledge of Chinese philosophy.
Norman loved to cook and experiment with recipes, creating some grand feasts and parties back in the day. He was a Renaissance man, a Bridge Champion, an avid golfer, ready with a laugh and a kind manner, loved animals, especially dogs and parrots. He loved to play cards and be in tournaments at the CR Bridge Club, on the internet and talk to his friends all over the world.
Norman will be missed here on Earth by Laurie, Sue, (Ron’s wife), cousins Ruth and Bobby and the many friends (Marvin, Avie) made in his lifetime near and far.
All the pets from the past years surely raucously greeted Norman passing through, especially his beloved Gypsy ll.
Rest in peace Don Norman
