BREAKING:Number of coronavirus cases rise to 35 By the A.M. Costa Rica staff The Health Minister confirmed, a few minutes ago in a press conference, eight new cases of patients infected with coronavirus covind-19, bringing the toll to 35 people infected in Costa Rica. According to the statistics provided by the authorities, of these 35 patients, are 19 women (54%) and 16 men (46%). Concerning nationality, 30 are Costa Rican and 5 foreigners. Authorities are not providing information on the nationality of foreigners. However, last week had been confirmed three U.S. citizens were among infected patients. The age ranges of the infected patients are from 10 to 87. Among these are a 10-year-old patient (girl), a 13-year-old patient (boy), and two more children under 13. Also, it was reported a U.S. woman citizen, 73, and a Costa Rican woman, 70. On Friday was added a new patient of 87 years-old. The rest of the 28 infected are adults. Regarding the provinces where the patients come from, the authorities reported are from San José, Alajuela, Heredia, Guanacaste and Cartago. The authorities decided to not publish the city where each patient is in quarantine, as well as the information about how the patients were infected. However, some of these patients had contact with students from schools and high-schools located in the cantons of Alajuelita, Desamparadados, Moravia, Tibás, Escazú, San Pedro and La Sabana in San José Province. A school in La Cruz in Guanacaste. And in Cartago Province a school in La Unión. The authorities decided not to publish the summary of the new cases. "After the 20 people confirmed with coronavirus are surpassed, the instruction of the Surveillance Department is to provide only the information in ranges," said the ministry's press department. Even though the ministry decided not to publish the total number of suspects, authorities confirmed that 450 people classified as suspects, were ruled out. Specialists are in the process of confirming or ruling out more coronavirus suspects cases using lab tests. It is expected more update information about new cases will be provided on Monday. ![]() Conv-19 has reached a global level. Last week the World Health Organization, WHO, has described the rapidly escalating coronavirus Conv-19 outbreak as a pandemic. “This is not just a public health crisis, it is a crisis that will touch every sector, so every sector and every individual must be involved in the fight,” said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO director-general. Today are 167,757 reported coronavirus Conv-19 cases around the world, 6,456 patients died and 76,598 patients were total recovery, according to the most current information from the WHO. In China, where the virus was first detected, 3,199 patients died.
