Nicoya ferry improvement plan advances

Three companies have been the chosen finalists to carry out the infrastructure improvement plan at the Paquera ferry terminal, located in the Nicoya Peninsula.
According to data provided by the Ministry of Transport, the three companies that will compete to win the deal are Copisa Constructora Pirenaica S.A., Constructora Navarro and Avilés S.A. and Constructora Hernán Solís SRL.
The offers made by these companies, budgeted between $5 million to $8 million, will enter a final phase of analysis at the ministry.
According to Tomás Figueroa Malavassi, Vice Minister of Public Transport, it is estimated that the chosen company will be hired in February and the final agreement will be signed in June 2021.
The infrastructure improvement plan includes the docking, departure area for the ferries, as well as the waiting, boarding and disembarking areas for people and vehicles at the port.
In addition to the infrastructure improvements, the ministry is in the process of analyzing the hiring of a consulting company that is in charge of the administration and supervision of the project. This hiring would be budgeted at $400,000, with the expectation of starting in May 2021.
Another port that is in the process of infrastructure improvements is in Golfito, Puntarenas Province, which is being developed by the Pacific Ports Institute.

Infrastructure improvements works started in 2018, with a budget of more than $2 million, to modernize the port.
• According to the institute, among the main works are:
• The construction of tourists arriving on cruise ships zone.
• Repair, maintenance and replacement of piles.
• Fire control system.
• Installation of a new fender system in the docking area.
• Installation of a new electrical system.
