By the A.M. Costa Rica staff Agents from the Judicial Investigation Organization arrested a Nicaraguan man on suspicion of murdering a U.S. citizen. According to the judicial agent's investigation report, on Friday morning, about 7 a.m., a U.S. citizen, resident in Costa Rica, surnamed Baldino-Dominic, 57, had left his house. Baldino lived with his girlfriend, whose name was not provided by the agents, in their home located in Herradura Beach, Puntarenas Province. After Baldino left, a Nicaraguan man surnamed Acuña-Centeno, 40, arrived at the house where the woman was still there. Judicial agents alleged that Acuña is the woman's ex-boyfriend. Acuña and the victim argued when he shot the woman several times. "He entered the house, threatened the woman and shot her several times. The woman was shot in her arms. Then it is presumed that the man took a knife to hurt her. There was a fight between them," the agents said in their report. According to the investigation, while the man was attacking his alleged ex-girlfriend Baldino returned to the house, so the suspect attacked him as well. "When the U.S. citizen returned home, the suspect shot him on several occasions, wounding him in several parts of his body. The U.S. citizen managed to leave the house and find refuge behind a car that was parked nearby. Then, the suspect also comes out of the house in search of the U.S. citizen but he cannot find him and goes back inside the house," the agents added in their report. Upon hearing the shots, the neighbors call the police. "The officers ordered the suspect to leave the house. The man left the house and was detained by the officers," the agents said. "Inside the house, the officers find the wounded woman and the gun allegedly used by the suspect." On the sidewalk, a few meters from the house, the officers found Baldino dead. Red Cross paramedics took the woman to the Puntarenas hospital, where she was reported in stable condition. Forensic specialists took Baldino's body to the facilities of the Forensic Sciences Complex of the Judicial Investigation Organization located in Heredia Province. ![]() The suspect was taken to the cells of the Public Ministry of Puntarenas where he was interrogated by the judicial agents. He is now waiting until a judge orders the pre-trial measures against him as a suspect of murder and assault. It is expected today that the Public Ministry releases the final judge’s decision on the pre-trial measures for the suspect. -------------------------- What have you heard of U.S. expats facing conflicts with Nicaraguans in Costa Rica?
