The National Institute of Learning (INA) is developing virtual English language courses to 3,068 students this year.

After the students pass the courses, 1,703 women and 1,365 men will obtain the skills that allow them to enter the labor market, the institute said.

The courses are part of the Alliance for Bilingualism National program, an English language program in which the government, the institute and companies promote the free courses, as a tool to increase their qualification to find a bilingual job.

According to the institute, an example of the good results of this free resource is the case of Melissa Gamboa, who a month ago started working at Amazon because of her new skills.

“In the institute, apart from learning a new language, we were helped to develop skills to make good presentations, lose our fear of speaking in public, work in teams. Things that I consider empowered me to have been selected for this job. I just finished my studies, ” Gamboa said.

The courses follow the guidelines of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment, known as CEFRL. This is a guideline used to describe achievements of learners of foreign languages to provide a method of learning, teaching and assessing English.

More than 1,000 people have managed to certify their level of English through virtual tests. Furthermore, teachers have been certified with international virtual tests to improve the quality of teaching in the language.

With this new program, people can be certified in:

• Basic English with a 300-hour course.

• Intermediate English with a 300-hour course.

• Upper-intermediate English a 600-hour course.

• Advanced English with a 300-hour course.

For more information about the English courses, call the institute at (506) 2210 6000 or email informacion@ina.ac.cr

The virtual courses are developed on the Teams, Microsoft 365 and Moodle platforms. However, the institute recognizes that students of virtual courses have problems or limitations in accessing the internet. Authorities are analyzing possible solutions to the lack of internet, they said.
