Costa Rica has imported 2,511,645 vaccines against covid-19, according to the National Emergency Commission.

The most recent shipment with 79,560 doses of Pfizer vaccines arrived on a DHL cargo last night at at the Juan Santamarķa International Airport in Alajuela Province. These doses are part of the 6,000,425 million Pfizer vaccines to immunize more than 3 million people.

On Sunday, arrived 204,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines on an Avianca cargo flight. These are part of the 1,092,000 doses purchased last year of AstraZeneca vaccines for the treatment of more than 500,000 people.

In addition, the country purchased 2,038,300 doses of vaccines through the Covid-19 Vaccines Global Access, COVAX system, of the World Health Organization. This acquisition includes WHO-approved vaccines, such as AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Moderna.

The country bought a total of 9,130,725 doses to ensure treatment for more than 4.5 million residents living in Costa Rica, according to the commission statistics.

Last week, the U.S. White House announced the plan to internationally share at least 80 million vaccine doses by the end of June. Of these, nearly 19 million will be shared through COVAX, with the Latin American countries, including Costa Rica.

According to the Emergency Commission plan, 2.5 million vaccines will be imported between July and September. By the end of this year, the government's goal is to have vaccinated at least 3.5 million people.



As of Tuesday, a total of 1,906,177 vaccines against covid-19 have been applied, reaching a national vaccination rate of 36.92 per 100 inhabitants, according to the statistics from the Vaccine National Information System. Of these 1,219,551 people have received their first dose, and 686,626 people have completed their two-dose treatment.

The Ministry of Health reported on Thursday a total of 73,878 active covid-19 cases in the country. Of the total 338,048 cases detected since last year, 4,298 deaths were listed as covid-19 related, approximately 1.3% death rate in Costa Rica.
