More than $1.2 million for repair 5km of a road in Limón

The Rural Development Institute announced an agreement to repair five kilometers of roads in the southern part of the Guácimo district in the Province of Limón. The cost had been estimated to be $512,769.
However, according to estimates made by the institute, the final cost of road construction is approximately $1,253,037, "taking into account the edges of the pipes in some sections with very steep slopes, and the asphalt for the layer of the road surface of the most damaged slopes."
The institute will finance with its own resources $512,769, and the municipality will pay the rest of what it will cost to fix the road.
According to the institute, the area where the road will be repaired in the Province of Limón is characterized by great natural beauty. "However, despite having ideal conditions for tourism, the access to these sites is hard due to the poor condition of some roads, mainly in parts that have steep slopes," it said.
The goal of the agreement between the institute and the municipality is to improve the conditions of access to tourist areas in the southern part of Guácimo, said the institute in its statement.
Currently, the roads have earth and rocks surface, and there is no public transport service. People in the community and tourists can only walk or use a car suitable for those conditions.
The institute announced that it will continue studying projects to improve roads and infrastructure in rural areas.
On October, the Ministry of Public Works announced the start of the construction of a modern road between the districts of Parrita in the province of Puntarenas, and Puriscal in the province of San José. This comes after 45 years of the request by the people of those communities.
"For
more than 45 years the people of this sector of Puriscal and nearby
places have given an intense fight," said Alvaro Cascante,
representative of the communities. "We have attended meetings and
conversations with government authorities in various administrations,
and we had not had an answer. "
An agreement finally was
signed by authorities of the ministry, the National Road Council and the
Institute for Rural Development to coordinate the investment of $12,165,059 that will pay for the 51.89 kilometers of the Route No.239
that will connect both areas.
The National Road Council and the
Institute for Rural Development will be responsible for building 41.89
kilometers The ministry will take care of the 10 kilometers of the road
needed to complete the route.
According to the ministry,
improvements on this road are of great importance for transport between
the rural area and the Pacific coast.
