The judge of the Criminal Court in Limón Province sentenced a Costa Rican man surnamed Rodríguez- Méndez to 12 years in prison after being found guilty of committing the crime of international drug trafficking.
According to the Prosecutor's accusation, on Feb. 14, 2020, Rodríguez entered the APM Terminals port, in Moín, with 202 black briefcases containing cocaine.
In the trial, it was established that Rodríguez introduced the drug into the truck he was driving, then he hid the drug among a shipment of ornamental plants that were to be exported to the Netherlands.
When Drug Control Police officers inspected the container they found the black briefcases containing about 3,900 packages of cocaine weighing approximately one kilo each.
The police managed to locate the truck driven by Rodríguez that transported the container inside the port.
While the sentence is final, the judge ordered that Rodríguez remain in prison.
Agents of the Judicial Investigation Organization call on the population to report any suspicion of drug trafficking to the confidential line 800-8000-645, where there are bilingual agents who can answer calls in English or Spanish.
