In April, the German airline Lufthansa is increasing the frequency of its weekly three flights to five, from Germany to Costa Rica, announced the Tourism Institute.

"This news allows us to continue with the tourism reactivation as well as the airline industry," Hermes Navarro, representative of the institute said.

According to Navarro, the good management of the pandemic by the Costa Rican authorities and the application of health guidelines have allowed the country to be seen as an example to the world.

"The increase in reservations to our country made Lufthansa expand the frequency of flights," Navarro said.

The flights are scheduled for Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Departing from Frankfurt International Airport (FRA) on flight LH 518, at 1:40 p.m. (European time) and arriving at the Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) at 5:50 p.m.

The return flight is Costa Rica to Germany, the departure from SJO on flight LH 519, at 7:35 p.m., arriving at FRA at 3:00 p.m., Germany time.

The route is operated with Airbus A340-300 aircraft, with space for 279 passengers, 30 in business class, 28 in premium and 221 in economy.

The German airline requested from Civil Aviation, the organization in charge of authorizing flights, an additional 12 flights until the end of April.

Lufthansa resumed flights to San José on Oct. 24, beginning with two weekly flights. With the new increase in trips, the company will offer 1,395 seats per week.

According to the institute, the German market is one of the main providers of tourists in Europe. Before the pandemic, German tourists had an average stay in Costa Rica for more than 12 days, mainly seeking outdoor activities and nature.
