License plate restrictions will not apply
on Mother’s Day

The Directory of Transit announced that on Thursday, August 15th, the license plate restriction will not be applied in San José due to the national holiday.
The rule was originally implemented to reduce the number of cars in the capital.
According to the Traffic Police, since public institutions and most private companies are on holiday, the reduction in traffic will be significant.
Another reason for not applying the restriction is to allow transit officials the opportunity to focus on people traveling to the beaches or the countryside.
The plate restriction will be back in effect as of Friday, August 16th.
Under normal conditions, the plate number restriction is applied in San José Monday through Friday, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. The fine for disrespecting this measure is about $40.
The next holiday in Costa Rica this year will be on September 15th, due to Independence Day, October 12th for the Day of Cultures and on December 25th for Christmas Day.
No restrictions on plates will apply on those days.
Mother’s day celebrations are on different days depending on the country, for example in the United Kingdom and Ireland Mothering Sunday is celebrated on the last Sunday of March, in the United States, Canada, Germany, and Australia Mother's Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of May.
