Gloria Berbena, Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy terminates her diplomatic functions in Costa Rica. Berbena’s send-off as the head of the embassy had Rodolfo Solano Quirós, Minister of Foreign Affairs hosting a farewell tribute that took place in the Golden Room of the Chancellery. The government, through the ministry, thanked Berbena for her contribution to strengthening bilateral cooperation and political ties, as well as economic and cultural exchanges between the two countries, the ministry said in its statement. ![]() The ministry highlighted a couple of Berbena’s most important duties for the country such as leading Secretary of State Anthony Blinken's visit to Costa Rica in June. As well as coordinating the donation of more than half a million vaccines against covid-19. One of Berbena's recent activities as a representative of the embassy was on Tuesday when she donated five drones from the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) to the Ministry of Security. Last week, Berbena leaded the government of the United States supports the Costa Rica police security program "Ligas Atléticas Policiales" (police sports league in the English language). ![]() Berbena assumed her position in January 2020, following Sharon Day stepping down from her role as ambassador of the U.S. in Costa Rica. Berbena previously served as the Minister Counselor of the diplomatic offices, as Chargé d’Affaires. ![]() In June, President Joe Biden announced his intent to nominate Cynthia Ann Telles as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Costa Rica. However, the embassy has not announced when Telles will arrive in the country.
