Junior team for World Surfing Cup was already chosen

The National Surf Federation announced that coach of Jim Hogan has chosen the 11 surfers teens who will represent the country in the Surf City, the junior surfing World Cup in Huntington Beach, California, which will take between Oct. 26 and Nov. 3.

According to coach Hogan, the teams will be:

The team of women under 18 are Eva Woodland, Paulina Summers and Coral Wiggins, The team of men under 18 are Malakai Martinez, Cedric McCracken and Sebastian Mora.

The Team of women under 16t are Paulina Summers, Indiana Ferri and Rachel Aguero. The Team of men under 16 are Aaron Ramirez, Darshan Antequera and Leonardo Apreda.

According to the federation, the majority of these teams are surfers who have previously participated in championships.

The new ones selected are Agüero and Apreda, both 13, who had a great season in the national circuit, as well as a good performance during the preselection concentrations, said the federation in its statement.

The Costa Rican team practiced this weekend in Playa Jacó for the last time before going to the world championship.

According to the federation, coach Hogan has the goal of getting the team into the Top 10. The Costa Rican junior surf team was in the top 10 in 2016 and 2017.

The best results of Costa Rica with the Junior team were in Portugal 2016 and Japan 2017. In both years the team managed to be ranked seventh.

On Sept 15th, the National Surf Team of Costa Rica announced to be in the top eight of the 2019 ISA World Surfing Games, toke place in Miyazaki, Japan.

The Costa Rica Surf Team was competing against 55 teams of other countries.

According to organizers event will unite 240 athletes to pursue their dreams of qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The Costa Rican team, chosen by coach Jim Hogan, are Jair Pérez, Noe Mar McGonagle, Carlos Muñoz, Eva Woodland, Leilani McGonagle, and Brisa Hennessy. The goal for the team is to occupy a space in the Top 10 in the world.

In August, the deputies of the Legislative Assembly voted in the first round in favor of bill No. 21.241, to declare the third Saturday of October as Surf National Day, in addition to declaring this sport as a public interest.
