Judicial agents detain 13 men suspected of stealing cars

Monday the agents of the Judicial Investigation Organization reported the arrest of 13 men, in the province of San José*, as suspects of belonging to a gang of car robbers.
According to the agents' report, the arrests happened between Monday of last week and Friday, suspects are between 17 and 60 years old.
The names of the suspects have not yet been provided.
According to the case, the first three suspects were arrested last Monday, in San José downtown*, when they were driving a 4x4 vehicle stolen in the same area.
Three days later, on Thursday, two other suspects were also arrested in a parking lot in downtown San José. The suspects were in custody of a car, which was also reported as stolen that same day near the community of Alajuelita* in San Jose.
Friday five more men were arrested, suspected of belonging to the same gang, said the agents. This arrest came after an Uber driver reported the theft of his car.
"In this case, four suspects requested a private transport service through an internet platform. The driver picked up the suspects in the Curridabat*. They requested to be taken to the city of Coronado," said the agents in their report. "When they arrived at the destination, the suspects threatened the driver with a gun and then stole the car. However, at the time of fleeing, they were intercepted and detained by the agents."
The fifth suspect related to this case was arrested in the city of Guadalupe*, and per the investigation, he was waiting for the other suspects to arrive in the stolen car, said the agents.
On that same Friday, the agents reported the last three suspects belonged to the same gang working near Tibás*. "Two of the suspects were traveling in a car that was reported stolen from the same place," said agent's report. "The last suspect arrested was driving another car, behind the stolen car, he is thought to be a lookout.
The 13 suspects were taken to the cells of the Public Ministry where they were interrogated by the judicial agents, where they must wait until a judge orders the pre-trial measures against them.
The judicial agents call on the population to report any suspicion of car robbery to the confidential line 800-8000-645, where bilingual agents can answer calls in English or Spanish.
