will cost $251 million, say authorities
By the A.M. Costa Rica staff The Institute of Pacific Ports, known as INCOP by its acronym in Spanish, presented Wednesday, a work plan for the reconstruction of Caldera port in Puntarenas. According to Juan Ramón Rivera, president of the institute, this project requires an investment of approximately $251 million. According to the institute, since 2016 there have been no improvements in the port and that is causing congestion. There also are infrastructure limitations to deal with the operations that are being carried out, it said. The new improvement plan includes these eight projects for further development of Caldera port: - Handling the sedimentation problem. - Development of the containers area terminal. - The construction of an additional deck for ferries. - Improvement of Terminal No. 4 - More parking area for trucks and trailers. - Measures to reduce load and download of the containers in the deck. - Stabilization of the coastal area. - Relocation of the service facilities building and Coast Guard facilities offices. According to Rivera, the port institute currently is in a process of making technical studies and performing legal work and financial budgeting for the development of the port.  In May, the institute announced the construction of the Muellero Park, which is a boulevard in Puntarenas along 800 meters of the seafront. This is to modernize the current tourist walk area is known as Paseo de Los Turistas. According to Rivera, the new boulevard has an approximate cost of $1.9 million. "The boulevard will have a wide path with a style similar to the movement of the waves, with a lighting system, an amphitheater and green areas," said Rivera. The lighting system of the new boulevard will allow the programming of the lights with colors to celebrate dates of special times such as Independence Day or Christmas. This new boulevard will "revitalize and reactivate the economic activity in Puntarenas, to offer tourists residents of Puntarenas more recreational areas and more sites to attract tourism to the city," said Rivera. The Paseo de Los Turistas is a stretch along the main beach in Puntarenas and is one of the most heavily visited. Around the pier where the cruise ships dock, there are many kiosks where local arts and crafts, as well as traditional fruit salad and frozen drinks called churchills which can be enjoyed. Along this boulevard, there are other services provided for tourists, including sports fields, park areas, showers, restrooms, and everything else needed to enjoy the beach. ------------------------ Have you ever been to Paseo de los Turistas in Puntarenas?
