Guanacaste and Puntarenas without electric service on Thursday

The National Electricity Institute, known as ICE, will suspend electricity service to 20,730 customers in the provinces of Guanacaste and Puntarenas Thursday, from 7 a.m. up to 1 p.m. The blackout will include such locations popular with tourists as Nosara, Sámara and Tambor.
According to the institute, the blackout is because during the day the technicians will be working on maintenance and repairs on the power plants.
The employees of the institute will be working on improvements to the power plants located in the Cañas and the Nandayure substations.
With the exception of the people living in Chira Island, the following 48 communities located on both sides of the Gulf of Nicoya will not have electric service:
Barco Quebrado, Bejuco, Belén de Nosarita, Cabuya, Caimital, Cóbano, Cuesta Grande, El Balso, El Bongo, El Coto, Estrada, Garza, Huacas, Isla Venado, Jabillos, La Abuela, La Esperanza, La Fresca, La Javilla, La Maravilla, La Soledad, La Virginia, Lajas, Los Ángeles, Monte Romo, Montezuma, Nosara, Nosarita, Pánica, Pilangosta, Pochote, Porvenir, Pueblo Nuevo, Puerto Carrillo, Quebrada Nando, Río Ora, Río de Oro, Río Frío, Río Negro, Sámara, San Blas, San Francisco de Coyote, San Jorge, San Martín, San Pedro, Tambor, Valle Azul and Zapotal.
The institute said residents of the communities should take precautionary measures to avoid incidents during the electricity outage schedule.
