Government promotes tourism in National Geographic Traveler magazine
By A.M. Costa Rica staff
The government, through the Tourism Institute, promoted the country as a tourism destination in an article published in the National Geographic Traveler magazine.
According to the government, this article is part of the efforts to promote and position Costa Rica as a bio-safe destination and as a sanctuary for reconnecting with the essentials of life. The campaign was developed by the institute after months of low-tourism caused by the pandemic.
The cost of the agreement with the public relations agency in charge of the tourism promotion, Four Communications located in the United Kingdom, hired by the institute was not released.
According to the government, between June 2020 and January 2021, the institute invited 40 international journalists who live in the countries from where most tourists come to Costa Rica.
These invited reporters have "experienced the country's tourism development model and have shared the essence, culture and Costa Rican idiosyncrasy, amid compliance with strict protocols in tourism activities that they have evidenced in their publications," the government said in its statement.

The article in the National Geographic Traveler mentioned the commitment assumed by Costa Rica to be an example to the world based on a model of sustainable tourism by caring for the environment, its wide biodiversity, as well as the protection of more than a quarter of its territory with National Parks and conservation areas. All of this added to the unique experiences of its visitors, the government said.
It also recognizes Costa Rica as one of the top 35 destinations to visit this year. The magazine's editors chose it as "the best in the world" for travelers committed to safeguarding the environment and enjoying natural wonders.
The content about Costa Rica is part of an extensive 15-page report in the January and February edition of the magazine in the UK.
"Do you want to escape? Imagine a country with a quarter of its territory of national parks, a place where you can walk through the rain forest in the morning and surf in the afternoon,” it was mentioned in an extract from the article.
"Tourism is a vehicle for the economic reactivation that the country urges and these publications confirm the work that has been done for years to position Costa Rica as a destination committed to sustainability," Gustavo Segura, Minister of Tourism said. "For all these reasons, it is vital to continue the hard work for the recovery of the sector and that more travelers continue to enjoy our beauties."
