According to the ministry, the purpose is for the country is to be included as a place of reliable travelers in the next expansion of the Global Entry Program.

With this program, Costa Ricans will enter into the U.S. easier and faster, and U.S. citizens also will enter quickly into Costa Rica.

Global Entry is a trusted travelers program, which allows the expedited, pre-approved entry authorization to low-risk travelers in both countries.

This program is available at 53 airports through the U.S. with pre-inspection stations worldwide. The goal is to allow quick access and usually avoid going through the immigration post.

Global Entry is used by U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents of the U.S., as well as citizens of affiliated countries. This program applies in countries such as Argentina, Colombia, Germany, India, Mexico, the Netherlands, Panamá, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Switzerland and the U.K.

The authorities are expecting that soon Costa Rica may be the fifth Latin American country to enter the program.
