Gas stations close night shift

By the A.M. Costa Rica staff

The Gas Station companies Chamber announced on Sunday that gas stations in the country will close the night shift from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. the next day.

According to the chamber, this rule is voluntary and will depend on each company if it decides to apply the night closure.

This measure is due to a series of problems that the gas station companies have been facing due to the national crisis caused by the coronavirus covid-19 pandemic, said the chamber in its statement.

Among the main problems mentioned by the Chamber are:

- Low expenditure of gasoline at night.

- Less staff working gas stations at night.

- The rules dictated by the Ministry of Health in keeping fewer employees at gas stations.

Carlos Manuel Rodríguez, Minister of the Environment confirmed that the situation is not about the closure of the gas stations due to supply problems.

In this regard, the chamber announced that these closings will not cause shortages.

The public is advised to refuel during the day, in case your community's gas station closes at night.

Last week the Costa Rican Oil Refinery, RECOPE, announced that there is no risk of fuel shortages in the country.

The storage facilities located in the provinces of Limón, Cartago, Alajuela and Puntarenas have enough fuel for domestic distribution. Also, the institution announced that it has sufficient inventory to supply the domestic demand for fuel.

"Recently, shipments of various types of fuel were received, which allow the company to guarantee supply for the next month-and-a-half without any problem for the country," said RECOPE in its statement.

Also, the institution reported new security measures during this national emergency. Among the main measures are increased cleaning of gas stations and the implementation of sanitary products for the public.

The number of people who are entering will be controlled to avoid crowds in the industrial areas of the fuel warehouses.

All drivers of fuel trucks must wear face masks, in addition to regular safety equipment used to load and unload fuel.
