Four years after property invasion, judge orders eviction of intruders

The Environmental Prosecutor's Office confirmed that a judge of the Criminal Court of the Desamparados district in San José ordered the immediate eviction of 119 people from a protected land located in the zone of Patarrá.
According to the evidence, in 2015 these people presumably entered illegally and without authorization to protected land in the Desamparados district, said the prosecutor.
On that property, these people built improvised huts and named the area Our Lady of Los Angeles, the prosecutor said.
The resolution was issued against four people, surnamed Rojas-Centeno, Coronado-Vargas, Loaiza-Fuentes and Conde-Pineda, who are investigated as suspected of committing the crime of usurpation and invasion of a protected area.
According to the prosecutor's investigation, these four people began offering spaces to sell or rent on the property until 119 people were living there.
According to the Prosecutor's Office, the judge also ordered the destruction of improvised huts located within the place. "In this way the restoration of the area to its original state will be made," the prosecutor said.
Within the sentence, the judge ordered the Ministry of Public Security and the Municipality of Desamparados to evict the invaders and destroy the huts within a maximum period of two months.
According to National System of Conservation Areas, in the Desamparados area there are several hills that are protected areas. Among these are:
- The Cerro Ventolera hill, located southeast of the capital, near the communities of Patarrá and Higuito. The hill is the natural border line between the provinces of San José and Cartago.
- Two other hills in that area are Alto Tablazo and Alto Mata de Caña. Both serve as a division between the rivers of Tárcoles and Reventazón.
- Also in the Desamparados are the hills Lomas de Salitral and San Antonio. Both are near the old garbage dump known as the Blue River. They are also close to the Desamparados sports center.
