![]() By Victoria Torley I was thinking about the weather the other afternoon as I sat on the deck watching it rain for five minutes then stop. The sun would come out for the next five or even 10, then the rain would start again. Sigh. It’s hard to know what to plant or if the weather won’t cooperate. Rumors abound in Costa Rica about the ‘perfect climate’ which exists somewhere in the country. A place where it’s ‘forever spring.’ Remember the rhyme, “April showers bring May flowers?” We seem to live in ‘forever April.’ There are beach areas where it is ‘forever summer.’ That may be okay for some, but being hot, sweaty, and covered with either Off or mosquito bites doesn’t appeal to Metric Man. He grumbles. Then again, he grumbles at the rain . . . Come to think about it, I grumble at the rain. We have a swimming pool and it’s annoying when we can’t use it. The solution? Enclose the pool in a massive structure, walls, ceiling, windows, lots of space for chairs and flower pots. Doggone it, if I am going to live in “forever April” I am going to do it with a swimmable pool! ![]() So, here is a picture of “The Blue Lagoon”, blue because the ceiling is blue polycarbonate. Blue is good, we like blue. Now for an even more personal note. I am going on vacation, a real vacation to foreign climes where, evidently, it will also be “April.” While I am gone, you will be treated (I hope you find it a treat) to some of my earlier columns as I simply haven’t had time to write the six columns necessary to fill the weeks while I am elsewhere. Since I will be doing a lot of flights (and probably a lot of tests for “the virus”), I am not taking a computer. I may, from time to time, send in a picture of something with a few lines, but who knows? ![]() In any case, I leave you with a view of our view. If you are headed our way (Nuevo Arenal) sometime in June or beyond, let me know and bring your bathing suit. Always glad of company. ------------------- Editor's note: More information on this article or about gardening, Ms. Victoria Torley, gardener columnist, can be reached at victoriatorley1@gmail.com |
