faces six months of house
arrest as a suspect of murder By the A.M. Costa Rica staff The Quepos and Parrita Districts Prosecutor's Office announced that a judge of the Criminal Court ordered a six-month house arrest to a Dutch citizen surnamed Bodaan, 68. He is a suspect in the murder of a woman surnamed Cedeño. The brief information provided by the Prosecutor's Office indicates that they required Bodaan to have an electronic monitoring system on the suspect body (usually GPS devices on the ankles). He is also barred from leaving the country, and has to surrender his passport to the court. He is also under strict orders to not have any contact with witnesses in the case. The suspect, also the owner of the hotel where the victim was killed, was arrested on Thursday since the raid was carried out by the Prosecutor's Office and the Judicial Investigation Organization, OIJ. "It was seized evidence that probably could link Bodaan to the facts," said the Prosecutor in its statement. According to the brief information provided by the judicial agents, the crime happened on July 20, in a hotel room located in Quepos Canton in Puntarenas Province when agents were alerted to the finding of the victim's body in a hotel room. According to Walter Espinoza, the director of the OIJ, as a result of the investigation and new data from the analyses that have been made, Bodaan is the third suspect linked to the crime. "We continue working on the case; we have pending investigations and as the days go by we will strengthen and bring more light to this case," Espinoza said. According to the information provided by the judicial agents, the woman was traveling alone and it is alleged that she stayed at the hotel to take a vacation. On July 20, the victim was supposed to check-out of the hotel. But when she had not left the hotel, workers went to her room. She did not respond, so workers opened the door and found her lifeless body, said the agents in its statement. ![]() That same day, the judicial agents arrested the first suspect, a 32-year-old man of Nicaraguan nationality, surnamed Herrera- Martínez. He was an employee at the hotel. A judge ordered six months of pre-trial prison for him. Then, on July 25, another suspect was arrested, a 36-year-old man of Costa Rican nationality, surnamed Miranda-Izquierdo. He was also staying at the same hotel on the day of the murder. The suspect also received an order from a judge to remain in pre-trial prison for six months. ---------------------- Is traveling alone in Costa Rica a risk for tourists?
