By the A.M. Costa Rica staff A new Food Court was opened at Juan Santamaría International Airport in Alajuela Province. According to Aeris, the company in charge of managing the airport, the new 460 square meters of restaurant space is located next to hall 8 of the airport, just before the boarding lounge area. “We are in a context where we must attract the attention of the passenger not only in terms of health safety but also with innovation and a pleasant travel experience," Erick Barboza, Commercial Director of Aeris said. To build the new Food Court, it was not necessary to close any of the 20 boarding rooms that are interconnected with 13 corridors.  The new restaurant area includes the Britt Café Bakery coffee shop, El Patio folk Costa Rican food restaurant and the fast-food TORO Gourmet Burgers restaurant. The airport is home to 27 stores, including restaurants. And at each place passengers are only attended by following health guidelines in order to avoid covid-19 contagion. The new Food Court is one of the recent improvements at the airport. In February, the area for international arrivals had some renovations.  The new arrival area, of 445 square meters, has separate internal sectors for travelers, airport taxis, tour operators, authorized shuttles among others. The airport now has three entry access doors plus one emergency exit door. The first door is on the west side of the airport. It is specific for the entry and exit of passengers who hired airport taxi services and authorized rental car services. Airport workers are also expected to use it. A second door, located under the Bridge-A zone, is to function only as an emergency exit. The third door, located under the Bridge-B zone, services arrival passengers who hired a taxi service, rent-a-car, tour operators, shuttles, family and friends who are waiting to pick up at the airport. The fourth staging area, located next to the commercial shop zone, is specifically for passengers who need to hire a taxi or rent a car from the airport. The door will also allow access to airport workers and family or friends who are waiting for the arrival of travelers. "This provisional measure seeks to generate more order when the passenger arriving in the country leaves the airport," Juan Belliard, Aeris Director of Operations said. These changes have been authorized by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, according to Belliard. He added that the changes were done to provide a better service to tourists and to airport operators. "The guidelines even guarantee controlled access that is in line with the capacity, in the current health context (referring to the pandemic), of family or friends waiting for passengers," Belliard said. "The areas have informative warning signs to avoid crowds and respect the sanitary guidelines of social distance," Belliard said. "As well as everybody should be wearing face masks." Airport authorities recommend that people who must pick up a traveler at the airport arrive at least 15 minutes before the flight is scheduled to arrive because entering the controlled area depends on the number of people who are in that zone. All-access areas are guarded by airport police officers. They are also asking for flight information arriving passenger(s) in the country for access to the entry points at the airport. -------------------------- What other improvements should be made in the airport?
