The Costa Rican Foreign Trade Promoter, known as PROCOMER for its acronym in Spanish, organized last week the participation of flower exporters to have a stand at the international flower fair in Colombia, known as Proflora.

According to Álvaro Piedra, director of exports at PROCOMER, “participation in this fair is another of the commercial promotion tools that we make available to position the very diverse and high-quality offers that Costa Rica has in plants, flowers, and foliage sector. ”

According to PROCOMER, Costa Rican companies that belong to the consortium that presented their flower and foliage products are Río Tapezco, Del Río Exotic Flowers, Orchimex de Costa Rica, Sulá Farms, Ornamental R5, and Exotic Fern.

The fifteenth edition of the Proflora International Fair is the most important flower exhibition in America, with an influx of at least 2,000 visitors, representatives from 60 countries around the world, said PROCOMER.

"To get the most high-grade Costa Rican participation, each company had about 20 meetings with potential buyers such as brokers, wholesalers, direct importers, retailers, and florists," said PROCOMER in its statement.

According to statistics provided by PROCOMER, during 2018 Costa Rica exported around $130 million in flowers and foliage, mainly to the U. S., Holland and Belgium.

In Costa Rica there are 150 flower and foliage export companies, PROCOMER said.

On Sept 19th, as A.M. Costa Rica reported, PROCOMER, opened the two-day business fair, Buyers Trade Mission, or BTM2019 at the Convention Center*, in the province of Heredia.


According to PROCOMER, BTM is one of the tools the foreign trade sector has to contribute to the growth of the country, especially when facilitating the exportable development of small and medium enterprises.

The fair is attended by representatives from 35 countries, including Jordan, Portugal, Japan, Russia, and Palestine. In addition, 300 international buyers reviewed products offered by 600 Costa Rican companies.
